Daily Divination 6-4-11 Journey to Cosmic Consciousness from a Material World – 8 of Cups and Saturn in Pisces

Loosening up stuck and solidified emotions and leaving the old baggage behind. I’ve learned that to leave the baggage one has to pry it loose from the soul and what comes as an image in the mind is like an old anchor that has been in the sea a long time. When it is dredged up, it is full of barnacles—barnacles on a rusty anchor. Those barnacles and that rust are like issues of the past.

But we have to bring up that anchor and clean it off. Sand blasting cleans barnacles off anchors, chains and the bottom of boats or high pressure cleaners do too; but, sometimes scraping is called for to remove these crustaceans.

I’m thinking our soul could, like the anchor, chain and boat bottom also collect barnacles after many incarnations.

The tarot card that inspires today’s message is 8 of Cups which is archetypically the same as Saturn in Pisces.

Saturn is material or materiality (earth) and put anything in an ocean long enough (Pisces relates to Oceans) and we can get rust and barnacles. If these aren’t dealt with, over time the boat could get a hole and the barnacles on the bottom of the boat and propellers could slow down travel a great deal.

Barnacles on our boat and on our soul can slow us down

Barnacles in this case are symbols for emotional baggage that slows us down on our journey just the way real barnacles can put a drag on the boat and in the case of unresolved rust can create a hole in the boat itself!

I used to watch a lady crabber (a person who went out in her boat daily to catch crabs or check her cages or crab traps).  She went out into the Chesapeake in a little boat with a hole.

I’d be having morning coffee and around that time of day there’d she be rowing a bit and bailing a bit and then pulling up a trap and then bailing again!

It was comical and she wasted a good bit of time bailing. I suppose life itself can be like that sometimes if we don’t make those repairs when they’re needed.

I often wondered why she didn’t just fix the boat; maybe she enjoyed the bailing as much as the rowing and everything else out there on the bay.

When we bring our boat to dry dock to care for it properly, it saves us time in the long run… especially if we have new shores awaiting us and we really want to get somewhere. Some people, like this woman on the Chesapeake, may enjoy bailing their boat and getting little accomplished and maybe they have the luxury of time to be able to do that and enjoy every moment of it! (No judgment.)

It makes me think of people who actually enjoy the drama of life. No judgment there either. How can there be? We have multi-million dollar movie industries who bank on our love of drama and movie stars who love their work. And we love their work too.

I wonder if some people like the drama of bailing because if they didn’t keep busy doing that, they’d have the time and energy to do other things and they’d rather bail than to face the challenges of traveling to new shores.  Maybe there are parts of me like that.  Maybe you too?

Like the Chesapeake crabbing lady, she couldn’t go far from her own dock and in some ways, neither can I!  But maybe I don’t want to or maybe I’m not supposed to.

Saturn in Pisces—material things in the ocean.  Material and societal life and cosmic consciousness!  Those two don’t seem to go well together.

Anyway, without continual maintenance—the ocean will eventually cause the boat’s deterioration. Lots of people give up their boats because of the continual maintenance involved.

Our lives can be like that too; some people simply cannot maintain their bodies and therefore give them up and we call that death. But until then, we do the continual maintenance of coming into dry dock, cleaning off the barnacles and treating the rust in our meditation and reflection/contemplation times.

And then back into the ocean of life I suppose and on to new experiences with rejuvenation—isn’t that how it’s supposed to go?

Life is impermanent and change happens and in that adjustment we have opportunities to release old patterns and remove those barnacles in dry dock. One way we know this is happening is when we have a lack of energy (the barnacles are beginning to create a drag) and our boat slows down. It’s time for some maintenance and to clean the bottom of our boat or scrape away attachments to past experiences.

Saturn represents the barrier between the individual conscious mind and the cosmic mind. The cosmic mind is represented by Neptune, the ruler of Pisces.

In my little analogy, Saturn is the material boat flowing on the ocean of cosmic consciousness. How well is the boat moving along? Are you able to reach new shores or are the barnacle attachments slowing down your movement? Has your boat sprung a leak from lack of maintenance and are you spending all your time bailing? Are you fearful about the possible new shores the cosmic ocean will bring you to? These are some thoughts for contemplation from today’s Cosmic Communiqué which is more an encouragement to reflect than a specific message.

PS—in the image of this card we see a woman who turns her back on the cups and heads off alone into the mountains. It sort of makes me laugh as that’s what I’ve done in my life—I am alone in the mountains having withdrawn a good bit from society (Saturn) to help me release emotions (Cups).

“Society” is another archetype of Saturn but how many of us can completely and totally withdraw from society? We have to have some connections to it… we have to remain in the world, don’t we?

I think I’ve put my boat permanently in dry dock and have headed toward the mountain top searching for something higher, the inspiration to find the meaning of life perhaps. I have given up a high paying (relatively so, for myself anyway) career as a physical therapist to be here where I am doing what I do. I walked away from the cups, the past achievements, like the lady in the image of the 8 of Cups card.   I left a lot behind just like the image on the card and I had to scrape a good many barnacles off my boat to get here!

I hope you will be able to find a line or two in today’s post that brings you some meaning and insight for your life today. See you tomorrow…

Daily Divination April 29, 2011 Examining the Soul’s Journey through Awareness of Desire – Page of Cups, Cancer/Scorpio/Pisces

I’m reminded of the movie Inception as I look at the inspiration for today’s message—tarot Page of Cups.  You know the scene that appears at the start and finish of the movie—being on the shore of the subconscious mind wasn’t it?

Between the subconscious and the unconscious that is my interpretation of this card and that scene in the movie.  Touching into the deep emotional stream of consciousness–that’s what today’s message is going to be about and being on the edge and getting the “feel” for the depth of our own soul.

Our soul ‘is’ feeling and communicates with us through feeling… emotion.

We yearn to know the Unknowable; that’s the gist of it.  And this yearning manifest differently based upon what level of consciousness we have reached.  Just like within two seconds of conversing with someone, it becomes clear as they express their desires.

One person wants to know when they will be able to buy the new car or have a commitment from the new lover while another wants to know when they will be able to hear or see the Angels.

These desires eventually lead us into the place of the Page of Cups, discovering what the desires have to teach us.

We are all on the path, in one way or another (in my humble opinion), of reaching for freedom of being overly self-conscious in life as we reach for the next desire—no matter what that desire actually is at any given time.  In truth, the cry of each human soul is, “I just want to be ‘me’!”  We are all trying to figure out, in our own way, what ‘me’ really ‘is’.  And it is through exhausting our desires that this discovery is made—and that is evident as we release one desire and replace it with the next.

The image shows a fish emerging from the cup in the page’s hand which represents a thought/feeling/desire come from the subconscious mind.  All along the way in our journey of life we have one desire after the next, one thought from the subconscious after the next—always seeking after what will fulfill us.

I’m looking for the bottom line message here.  The next thing that comes to mind is “ask and you shall receive” and the thought that follows that using care in what you ask for, because you just may get it!—as the sayings go.  And it is through those desires, whether fulfilled or not, that we learn about ourselves and begin the process of eliminating and releasing those desires one-by-one until our desire becomes to have no more desires!  And to make peace with just be-ing and loving what ‘is’ happens when the soul reaches a state of releasing desires.  Until then, we make our dreams our reality.  The dreams and the desires come from deep within the soul.  We can examine our life path through examining what those were in the past and what those are now and in this way we can have deeper insight into our own soul and its journey through life.

Astrologically, the cups relate to the water signs–Pisces, Cancer and Scorpio i.e. emotions (cancer) from the depth (Scorpio) of the ocean of consciousness (Pisces).

A young soul is full of desires, wants new experiences.  Whereas souls who have lived many lifetimes have exhausted many desires already.  What is your desire nature teaching you these days?  Perhaps not a bad topic for reflection and contemplation.

Do all of these desires have to be acted upon?  Personally, I think not–but that’s just my opinion.

Today, I’m going to examine the desire nature of my own past and the current state of my desires too.  I hope see what personal insight that survey holds for me.  Maybe you would like to do the same?

Daily Divination April 5, 2011 Emotional Drama in Relationships; The Perfect Storm? King of Cups asks….

 The Perfect Relationship Storm?

Do you know someone (probably a male—but could be a woman too) who can’t properly express emotion? Then today’s King of Cups Divination Message may be for you. Mastering emotions through detached awareness isn’t for the weakest amongst us.  In other words, to use some mountain talk, “It ain’t easy”.

Hey, and include me in that statement—I’ve been years working toward that goal and some days I wonder if I’ll ever get there.

Violent King Titan (son of Poseidon), the god of the sea, can become activated in all of us if we’re not being conscious about our emotions.  King Titan is associated with huge turmoil and horrendous waves when jealous, obsessive and angered.

When the King of Cups archetype energy in our consciousness – and that seems like a combo of Neptune/Pisces energy (sensitivity) and Moon/Cancer energy (emotion) and toss in Mars/Aries (fire and passion) too…. well, that’s the  part of us that can either be the wise-counselor, someone who maintains composure, keeps their head in a crisis, is diplomatic, caring and tolerant–or quite the opposite.

The question is when is too much of that enough?  Can one be too caring and too tolerant and too diplomatic?  Energy has to be balanced in order to be healthy.  Someone who is too compassionate (is there such a thing? Yes, I believe so) and too attached and “close” to a situation can become drained, loose self-identity and set the self up for victimization and actually bring out the King Titan type energy in others.  Conflict avoiding behavior makes the King Titan aspect  grow in others sometimes.  Energy is always trying to balance and we attract what we need to grow.  How is all of this playing out in your life and in the lives of those you know?  It’s playing out somewhere (I promise you); read on for more insight about it….

I know someone who had to participate in a domestic violence hearing and was surprised (first timer) at the number of people in the crowded courtroom—there were many, many cases to be heard.  That really says a lot about a couple of things.  One is the obvious fact that people really need help in learning how to deal with their emotions.  The second is that astrologically with so many planets in ARIES now… there’s lots of impulsiveness and reactionary type energy very likely afoot right now.  (Mercury, Jupiter, Sun, Mars and Uranus—they’re all in ARIES.)  I wrote a blog about Aries last week.

The King of Cups Asks.....

The message under consideration for today’s divination is about emotional balance and proper expression of that emotion.  The King of  Cups asks, “Do we avoid conflict at our own expense and how much tolerance, composure and caring is enough? And how much is too much?”

Libra is the flip side, the polarity, of Aries.  Those energies, to be healthy, need balance and wisdom which plays out highly through life experiences and generally in the scheme of things.

So much Aries energy right now (think:  King Titan in the image at the top of this post) can put the big squeeze on sweet Libra (think:  the image of the ship with King Titan) and that sweet Libra stuff needs to be a bit more Aries-like IF one hopes to survive any current storms in the sea of life, that is.

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, here’s [BELOW] a chart for the current energy.

See all those planets with this glyph in the left side of the chart below ?  That is the sign of ARIES.    There’s whole lot of planets on that left side of the chart [BELOW] in that sign of Aries, right?  See all of them?

Very good; now look way to the right, the opposite side of the chart.  What do you see?  One planet opposing all those others!  It happens to be Saturn in the sign of Libra.  Sweet Libra energy over there in the sign of relationships hardly stands a chance against all that Aries; sweet Libra is going to have to toughen up or not; but it’s going to be a challenge.

And we’re all experiencing this energy somewhere in our chart–each and every one of us. Again, the chart of the energy below shows what we’re all dealing with now. While you look at it you will notice that , we also have lots of energy in the spiritual sign of Pisces to help us.  Perfect time for prayer and meditation… that’d be supported and easy for us to access to assist us now.

Here’s what the glyph of Pisces looks like:

See it in the chart below?

The whole thing looks like the potential for a Spiritual Awakening to me!     The Perfect Storm in a Relationship can facilitate that awakening.  Why do I say a relationship?   Saturn is transiting through the relationship sign itself, Libra–and it’s retrograde to boot, so it’s all highly focused energy.  Toss Mercury Retro into the mix and it’s either let’s talk or let’s quit talking or let’s go back and clean this up by communicating differently depending on how it plays out for each of us.  (Those are the archetypes; an astrology reading specific to your own birth chart could get more specific.)

PS– just noticed that  Juno (the asteroid associate with marriage) is also retrograde right now!  Hmmmmm, interesting!
